About Island Adventures

The Island Adventure Team works diligently to provide access to portions of the Golden Isles you might never see. How about taking a voyage on a working shrimp boat – and having great seafood while you are on board! Visit nearby historical islands and plantations. Explore Cumberland, Sapelo and Little St. Simons Islands. Tour a couple of the Golden Isles largest employers such as the Port of Brunswick or the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center or take a day trip to the Okefenokee Swamp to see nature up close. Island Adventures is very excited to offer a cooking class with Chef Aaron Bellizzi.  Chef Aaron is the former Chef de Cuisine of The Georgian Room at Sea Island and is a Forbes Five-star award winning chef.  He graduated from the Culinary Institute of America and has worked for Le Cirque, Gilt, Nix and three-Michelin star restaurant, Eleven Madison Park.

Currently, he and his partner, Lillie Onday, are the new owners of The Local Brew. Their goals are to develop delicious seasonal menus by using the best locally sourced foods available.

Cooking class will included 3 course – appetizer, entree and dessert.

Price includes class and meal.  Wine and/or beer is additional.

Island Adventures has booked representatives from the St. Simons Response Team to present to us the details of the Golden Ray removal! How exciting is that!! Join us on Monday, Sept. 28 @ 6:30 pm at the St. Simons Island Casino Atrium – 550 Beachview Dr.
– Bring your chair, drink and snack optional.
– We do request, unless immediate family, to spread your chairs out, and wear masks.
– Please note: The Response team can not answer any questions regarding the incident, they will only cover the removal process.

Speaker Bios:

CDR Efren A. Lopez, USCGR: Federal On-Scene Coordinator (FOSC)
CDR Lopez has been the Senior Reserve Officer for Sector Charleston since October 2019 and is currently assigned to the Saint Simon Sound Incident (MV Golden Ray) as the Incident Commander/Federal On-Scene Coordinator.

CDR Lopez is a retired Lieutenant from the Miami-Dade Police Department after 30 years, where he served in Economic Crimes, Homeland Security, Communication, Emergency Operation Center, Robbery, Professional Compliance, Narcotics, General Investigations Unit and Crime Suppression Team. He is a Certified Emergency Manager and a graduate of the Southern Police Institute – Command Officer Development Course. He has earned BA degrees in Accounting and Business Administration as well as an MPA.

Chris Graff: Responsible Party Incident Commander (RPIC)
Chris Graff joined Gallagher Marine Systems in August of 2012 after retiring from California Fish and Wildlife. Before retiring, his last position with California was Deputy Administrator for the Office of Spill Prevention and Response (OSPR) which empowered Chris with executive management responsibilities. Prior to the Deputy Administrator duties, Chris was the Law Enforcement Captain with statewide responsibility of Investigators and State on scene coordinators of spill response. Chris had responsibilities as the Lead State on Scene Coordinator for pollution response along with management duties for statewide response activity. As the Director of Response Services, Chris oversees all Response Services activities and supervises the Response Managers for the Gulf, West, and East Coasts.

LCDR Daniel Donovan, USCGR: Liaison Officer
LCDR Daniel Donovan is the Liaison Officer for the St Simons Response. He received his reserve commission in the United States Coast Guard in 2004. Prior to his commission in the USCG Reserves LCDR Donovan also served on active duty with the US Navy for three years as an Aviation Electronics Technician, and later in the US Navy Reserves as an Information Systems Specialist. LCDR Donovan has a Master’s degree in Emergency Management, is a qualified Master Exercise Planning Practitioner. In his civilian status he works for the US Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington DC as an Emergency Management Specialist.

Village Creek Landing is a peninsula surrounded on three sides by tidal creeks and marsh. Views over these beautiful Marshes of Glynn include Sea Island, Little St. Simons Island, and St. Simons Island. Village Creek Landing is located off Frederica Road, at the end of South Harrington Road, in the middle of St. Simons. This peninsula was once the site of Cusie’s Fish Camp, an important part of St. Simons history.
