Explore the scenic coastal estuaries and waterways around Little Saint Simons on our 2 Hour Nature tour.  Learn about the wildlife, history and ecology that make coastal Georgia so unique.  A GREAT way to enjoy a Coastal Georgia afternoon as well. Captain Brooks of the Hampton River Marina on the north end of St. Simons Island has over 35 years of experience fishing and playing in the coastal and offshore waters of the Golden Isles. Additionally, he has a background in marine science and wildlife biology and has worked for over 10 years as a professional Biologist on the Georgia Coast.

The Lady Jane is a 60-foot steel commercial shipping vessel that has been converted and renovated for your cruising pleasure! She is the only shrimp vessel on the entire east coast that has been certified by the USCG to carry passengers.  During our cruise, she will deploy her trawl and the crew will sort and explain the catch. You will likely be very surprised by the variety of life in our waters! The Lady Jane has an air-conditioned cabin, head (restroom to you land-lubbers), and large open decks with ample room to walk around to enjoy the view. Bring your camera!

Spirit of St. Simons Sunset Cruise

Spirit of St Simons is a homebuilt 36? sailing catamaran designed by Kurt Hughes. She is designed for the day charter trade, and constructed in such a way that the major parts can be disassembled and packed inside a shipping container, to be sent anywhere in the world.

The Spirit of St Simons holds a USCG Certificate of Inspection and is authorized to carry up to 24 Passengers. She is the only certified sailing vessel operating in the state of Georgia.

The deck layout is open, with plenty of space to sit, in a variety of seats, or up forward on the bow webbings. The webbings are made of car seat belt material and have been tested to support 3700 lbs.

ISLAND ADVENTURES – PAINTING WATERCOLOR CREATIVITY – 25th April 2024

Makers Art class – tapped trees

Interested in art?  Come join us for an evening of creativity with watercolors. This class is aimed at those who want to express themselves with color and technique.

This is a fairly easy project that looks quite fancy when it is done. We will start with strips of tape to create the shape of the trees, then splash on the watercolors!  You get to choose the colors for the sky, leaves, and foliage at the base of the tree.

After the event we can find a place in Brunswick for dinner and drinks.

ISLAND ADVENTURES – BRUNSWICK PORT TOUR – 11th April 2024

Brunswick Port Tour

One of our Newcomers members, Tom Lloyd is a 40-year veteran of the global ocean transportation and logistics industry. Tom has made arrangements for a port tour at the ocean terminal in Brunswick.  The tour will be conducted by Reed Handabaka of the Georgia Port Authority.  Reed will provide a complete tour of the facilities and will explain the processes at the ocean terminal.

The Port of Brunswick is the nation’s second busiest port for import and export R0/Ro (Roll on, Roll off) cargo.  Colonel’s Island is owned and operated by the Georgia Port Authority, the facility has three berths and three on-terminal auto processors.

We have rented a trolley to take us to the Georgia Port Authority.  Our meeting place is at the St. Simons Pier.

TALL SHIP LYNX SUNSET SAILING ADVENTURE

Step back in time and hear the extraordinary Maritime History of Young America, told to you in the shadows of St Simons Island, where the Live Oak was cut and shipped from for the building of the USS CONSTITUTION “OLD IRON SIDES” from the deck of the War of 1812 Privateer, Lynx.  Lynx is a near interpretation of a Baltimore Clipper launched from the yard of Thomas Kemp in Fells Point, Maryland in 1812.  Today’s Lynx serves a platform of history and experiential learning for all who cherish America’s Maritime History.  Help set sail, haul the lines, roam the wooden decks as they did over 200 years ago. Lynx’s crew will talk about the guns and fire one of our 6# cannons.  Lynx is a USCG Inspected Vessel.

You are welcome to bring your own food and spirits. Please arrive 15-20 minutes before the 5:00 pm departure. Plan time for the walk to the ship from the parking lot at the Morning Star main marina parking.

 

Lynx is located on the Main Pilots Dock through the rack storage area.

NEW Music Jam Event – Calling All Musicians – Thursday April 18th

Dear Island Newcomers Club Members,

Calling all musicians!  We are creating an opportunity for newcomer musicians to get together once a month for an acoustic musical jam session.  We will work out the details on dates and timing, but wanted to find out if there was interest.  We will start on April 18th with our first event @ 6pm until 8pm.
