Sapelo Island Bike Tour

Come spend a day with us and tour Sapelo Island and The Reynolds Mansion. Your day will begin with a ferry ride to the Island.  Your guide will meet you, mount up on our beach cruiser bicycles and head off for a day of adventure! The day will include climbing a lighthouse, bicycling on the beach, enjoying a picnic lunch at the beach pavilion, and top off the day with a tour of the Reynolds Mansion.

Okefenokee Swamp Sunset Cruise and Low Country Boil

Visitors enjoy the opportunity to learn about the Okefenokee on tour aboard a 24 ft Carolina Skiff. These are flat bottomed boats with ample seating and canopies overhead. You will travel along the historic Suwannee Canal through a tangled forest of bay, cypress, pine and shrubs, then out into the open expanse of Chesser Prairie. You may encounter egrets, herons, ibis, sandhill cranes, red-shouldered hawks, and American alligators, as well as otters in the winter and wood stocks in the summer and fall…. The swamp scenery is always spectacular!

Cost is $70 per person, which includes dinner, swamp cruise, tax, and tips.

Transportation to and from Folkston is not included, and carpooling is suggested. The drive is approximately 1 ½ hours.  Plan on arriving no later than 3:45pm, the low country boil will be first, then the cruise, during sunset.

Number of skiff boats will be determined once all have registered.  Participants will be spread out per CDC guidelines.

 

PLEASE NOTE: There is a $5 per vehicle – cash only – refuge entry fee.

(fee is waived if you have a senior park pass, federal lands pass, duck stamp or any other valid pass).

House plants, outside plants, Shrubs, Succulents, perennials, pots, seeds, garden books, tools and ………

Garden Club activity coordinated by Stephanie Collette and Bo Vandromme

 

 

Bring the plants you no longer want in your house, patio, porch, or yard.

Dig up 1 or 2 side shoots of your Sago, Yucca, Elephant Ears, or Hydrangea, wrap in plastic bag.

Bring the transplanted cuttings or pups from this spring or last year.

Bring one of your jades, pothos, philodendron or succulents you propagated.

If nothing else: bring a small bag of soil mix or 2 packets of perennial flower seeds.

Bring something to swap!!!

 

If possible:  

    • bring only healthy plants!
    • Identify your plant:  Add name tag:
      • Common plant name:
      • Water frequency: Daily – Weekly – 2weekly
      • Sun or Shade Requirement.
      • Sunlight: direct or indirect
      • Minimum temperature: 50 – 35  – 20F
    • Wrap bare root plant in moist rag or paper
    • Keep roots from larger plant damp, wrapped, in plastic bag

Lady Jane Sunset Dinner Cruise…and so much more!

The Lady Jane is a 60 foot steel commercial shipping vessel that has been converted and renovated for your cruising pleasure! She is the only shrimp vessel on the entire east coast that has been certified by the USCG to carry passengers.  During our cruise, she will deploy her trawl and the crew will sort and explain the catch. You will likely be very surprised by the variety of life in our waters! The Lady Jane has an air-conditioned cabin, head (restroom to you land-lubbers), and large open decks with ample room to walk around to enjoy the view. Bring your camera!

Spirit of St. Simons Sunset Cruise

Spirit of St Simons is a homebuilt 36? sailing catamaran designed by Kurt Hughes. She is designed for the day charter trade, and constructed in such a way that the major parts can be disassembled and packed inside a shipping container, to be sent anywhere in the world.

The Spirit of St Simons holds a USCG  Certificate of Inspection , and is authorized to carry up to 24 Passengers. She is the only certified sailing vessel operating in the state of Georgia.

The deck layout is open, with plenty of space to sit, in a variety of seats, or up forward on the bow webbings. The webbings are made of car seat belt material and have been tested to support  3700 lbs.

ABOUT: Farm at Oatland North

The farm at Oatland North is a non-profit animal rescue farm.  The Farm rescues and provides sanctuary for abused, neglected, and abandoned animals.  At the Farm, animals learn to trust again and have a chance to thrive and live out their lives in peace, comfort, dignity, and love.

Join us for a behind the scenes tour of the Farm and get to know some of the adorable animals, including goats, pigs, horses, donkeys, cats, and chickens.  Learn about how animals come to The Farm while also learning about their many volunteer opportunities.

Food will be provided to anyone interested in feeding the animals during the tour!

GOLF – King and Prince – September 23, 2021

The Island Newcomers Club golfers are scheduled to play at The King and Prince Golf Course on Thursday, September 23rd. The first tee time is 12:00 noon, followed by 12:08, 12:16 and 12:24 PM. The course is located at 100 Tabbystone St., on the north end of St. Simons.

Rates, including cart are $65 plus tax for 18 holes, and $55 plus tax for 9 holes. Please let me know if you would like to play 18 or 9 holes, and if there is anyone you would like to play with. A response by September 17th would be appreciated.
